Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are a set of complex, synthetic compounds with severe health impacts that are prompting new regulations at historically low levels—as low as part per trillion. In the United States alone, these compounds have been found in thousands of environmental sites and in multiple watersheds, which is causing industry and water utilities to take immediate action.

Our bioelectrochemical technology monitors PFAS in a portable field kit system. Producing rapid results for PFAS allows treatment technology providers to better understand what is happening with their system in real-time, and allows water utilities and environmental site owners to make better decisions with real-time data.

Our system is designed to measure a proxy to total PFAS compounds, as well as individual species of PFAS with our cartridge-based technology.

FRED-PFAS is a different way to think about water testing.

The system is designed for operators who work in drinking water, industrial wastewater (leachate for example), and ground/surface contaminated site water. Our novel system uses small biologically active compounds that are stored in sealed cartridges, and activate when a water sample is added. The system can collect your GPS and time-stamped data on-site, to provide you with quantitative results as low as the part-per-trillion level.
